Breckenridge Book Club

The book club headed to Breckenridge this past weekend to visit Jasmine and Kristy.  Who are we kidding when we call it book club, no one even reads the books!

The Horse with No Name

One of the guides brought her puppy, he's too small to run with the other dogs and he'll get stepped on by the horses.  He cried the whole way.

No Name

Last time we were in Breck we went for a horseback ride in Fairplay with Leah and James.  The entire way to the ranch I kept talking about how I couldn't wait to find out what my horses name will be.  I HAD to have a horse with a good name.  C'mon, horses can have such fun names, and I wanted one of those horses.

We get there and the horse-lady looks me over, then with a lot of thought, "I have the perfect horse for you, you'll ride No Name."

Seriously?  All I wanted was a horse with a cool name and I got No Name!  We all burst out laughing and she probably thought we were making fun of her.  But really, it was just funny that I got No Name when all I could talk about was what my horses name would be.

In the end, No Name was the best horse ever.  We got to gallop and run around, it was a blast.  I am now a horse lover.

Yes, I'm reading Twilight, I am a 28 year old trapped in a 13 year old body.  I'm obsessed!

We checked out the duck races in Breck.  Our ducks didn't win.  It's rigged I tell you!  We also got to see some friends who live up there.

Stick Monkey Weekend

We were up in Breckenridge for the weekend.  Since my parents are so kind to let us stay up there when we would like, we are their designated slaves for eternity.  For this particular weekend, they labeled us "Stick Monkeys" (little monkeys that pick up sticks). 

Due to all the evil pine beetles, they have had to cut down a ton of tree's on their property.  Pine beetles spread so quickly and leave the tree's dried up and dead.  And these are not little bitty trees, they are so tall that they must be cut down to help avoid a fire or to avoid being knocked over with heavy snowfall and landing on the house or road. 

They rented a log splitter and we chopped and shuttled wood all over the place.  Noah wasn't much of a help.  I suppose we'll have to give him a few years before we put him to work.  For now, he's pretty good at playing in the truck and riding his Strider, its a bit scary actually, he picks his legs off the ground and glides around with great balance on that bike with no pedals!  If you have a little tyke, the Strider is amazing! 

Breckenridge

Caleb, Austin & I headed up to Breck for the weekend to relax and squeeze in one more day on the slopes. On Saturday the weather was beautiful but the snow wasn't so beautiful. The mountain was a massive ice chunk.

Caleb left his ski boots in the car overnight and they were so frozen he couldn't get them on his feet. He tried to warm them up in the oven.

Look at all that snow! The space between the snow mounds is a path to the side door of the house. Parker was excited, more clean snow for him to pee on.

Snowy Days

We went to Breckenridge for the weekend (thanks Mom & Dad) for a snowy weekend with friends. It was a busy few days. We went skiing, sledding and snowshoeing. My body is still slightly sore from so many activities.

My camera battery died before the snowshoeing but I wish it would have worked! The dogs were so cute. They insisted on following us up the mountain but the snow was way too deep for them. The snow measured taller than they did so it looked like they were swimming in it. Poor puppies. They were whining when they got stuck but they made it through.

Here is Tim. He was obsessed with making the perfect sledding route. He worked for hours on it like a little kid. It was so much fun to go down! It was so high up though that it was a major workout to climb to the top! This picture is only the end of the long sledding route, it went up and up and up. Whenever we sled down the dogs chased after us.

A Happy Morning

This morning I woke up early early early to drive home from Breckenridge in time to get ready for work. It was nice watching the sunrise over the mtns. When I got home I quickly tried to make a bowl of cereal. While I was in Santa Fe and for reasons unknown to me, Austin used the only 2 bowls that are not packed for dog bowls. Why didn't he use the dog bowls for dog food? I do not know. So I used the only other thing not packed... a huge wine glass. It made a great bowl. And I think it made my Kashi cereal taste better!

A Happy Place

St. Mary's Glacier is my favorite place! Parker and I went by ourselves to have some bonding time. If you look really hard you can see some people far far away, climbing up the snow. They are carrying skiis. Since there is snow on the glacier year round a lot of people come here to hike up and ski down.

When we were kids my parents would take us up here in the summer and we would slide down in trashbags or just slide on down and soak our clothes. It was so fun!!! Parker was being a grump and didn't feel like skiing or sledding so we just watched. If you click on the picture you'll be able to see the people a little bit better.

Mud Season

It's mud season in the mountains. That's when all the snow is melting off the mountains and creates a mess. The good thing.... there are no tourist and the place is really quiet. The bad thing.... a lot of places close, including the only sushi restaurant in town.
